In June of 2009, Daniel and I took a bike ride together on a section of the Washington and Old Dominion rail trail in northern Virginia. I didn't take many pictures, but here are a few that I snapped at one of our rest stops. Daniel used a rented road bike for this outing; he must have enjoyed it, because he soon purchased a road bike of his own!

He has since acquired not only his own bicycle, but also proper bike shorts and cycling shoes, not to mention a trunk bag, a succession of mirrors, water bottles, a biking jersey, long tights for winter biking, and so on. Once you get started, you find that there is so much equipment that can make your cycling experience a little bit better, and a little bit better . . .
